Penistone Church 5 - 1 Albion Sports: Church win 5-1 to continue their great run of form

Church dominated long sections of the second half & deservedly won 5-1

Snow followed by heavy rain meant this match was in doubt, but excellent work by the volunteer ground staff made sure the match started. Church were on a good run of form with 8 wins from 9 matches.
Half a dozen goals reflected the open nature of this highly entertaining game, played on surprisingly good pitch.
Albion kicked off, but the ball went straight out for a Church throw in.
Church had the better of the early exchanges. After 5 minutes a speculative 35 yard shot nearly caught the Albion keeper off the line.
However the first half took some time to really get going. The spark was a rare Albion attack. After 20 minutes Albion played the ball through 3 midfield challenges and Chris Snaith was drawn out of his goal. However, the opportunity was blocked by two Church defenders. Albion again worked the ball well and spurned a reasonable opening by crossing too close to Chris Snaith.
After 36 minutes, a powerful Jordan Coduri shot was tipped round the post for a corner. Brett Lovell was unlucky to miss with his off-balance shot from the corner, that went a couple of feet wide.
Albion conceded a corner to the left a minute before half time. The low cross was cleared for a throw-in.

Church carried on their good start with a couple of quick breaks down the right.
Goal 52 minutes
…a head injury stopped play. Church then took an unopposed free kick. The ball down the middle found Nathan Keightley running at full pace. He jinked, and placed the ball low to the centre of goal.

Church lost the ball in their own box and a smart save by Chris Snaith low down, cleared the bar. Church then broke down the left and the low cross by Bradley Kemp was met in the middle by Tom Charlesworth. His first time shot from 5 yards was well saved at point blank range, by the Albion keeper.
However, the next 10 minutes saw Church pile the pressure on. With 2 near misses and 2 half chances all going begging.
After 67 minutes Albion Sports were reduced to 10 men with their player sent off for foul and abusive language we think.
Reece High replaced Nathan Keightley after 70 minutes.
Persistence by Elliot Firth saw him break 4 tackles on the edge of the box. His low effort deflected towards the on rushing Reece High. The keeper made a great recovery to stifle a certain goal.
After 80 mimutes Bradley Kemp was replaced by Sam Scrivens.
A late chance from Albion Sports was saved low by Chris Snaith. The clearance was swiftly worked up the right for a corner. James Young received a great pass from Brett Lovell and his pinpoint shot across goal was just tipped away at full stretch.
Church continued to press and won a corner to the left.
Goal 87 minutes
Brett Lovell met a cross from the corner and the ball skimmed in off the underside of the bar.

Albion sports were rewarded for their hard work. The Church midfield did not close down an Albion attack. The ball looped off a challenge to Jayden Sandu whose first time shot went low into the left of the goal from 18 yards.

Goal 90 minutes
Church were clearly disappointed to have conceded and responded immediately when Sam Scrivens broke the offside trap to take a ball from 30 yards out. He outpaced the defence and his powerful low shot from 20 yards beat the keeper low to the right of goal.
