Support Us In Creating a Legacy for our Community
Over the past 15 years, Penistone Church FC has expanded significantly in both size and scope. Our First Team now competes in the NCEL Premier Division, the highest level of football the club has ever achieved.
Our Reserves play at the top level of the Sheffield County Senior League, while our Under-21s and Under-18s sides continue to thrive as part of a strong local player development pathway.
Alongside this, our senior Ladies team is establishing itself very well within the Sheffield Women & Girls League.
We also have a thriving and expansive Junior Section, which is fantastic to see. In many age groups, we now field two teams, from Under-7s right through to Under-18s, for both boys and girls. This allows children and young people in our local community to play football, build confidence, and enjoy themselves in a safe, positive environment, supported by quality coaching throughout their development.
This pathway has already produced several professional players, including John Stones, Mark Roberts, Jack Shepherd, Louis Reed, Max Dearnley, and Scott High. More recently, Jacob Devaney, now Under-21 captain at Manchester United at just 18 years old, has also represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level and has an exciting future ahead.
What we do here is already something special — but there is real potential for it to become even better, bringing lasting benefits to our wider community for many years to come
The Football Foundation provides vital funding and support to grassroots clubs to help develop and improve pitches, facilities, and community spaces. Through grants and expert guidance, clubs can enhance the quality and sustainability of their playing surfaces, upgrade changing and clubhouse facilities, and create inclusive environments that support participation for players of all ages and abilities. This investment not only improves the footballing experience but also helps clubs grow, strengthen community engagement, and secure their long-term future.
Investment through the Football Foundation has a far-reaching impact beyond the pitch, helping clubs become true community hubs. Improved facilities create safer, more welcoming spaces that encourage greater participation from children, adults, women and girls, and under-represented groups.
They support physical and mental wellbeing, provide positive pathways for young people, and strengthen local pride and connection. By creating facilities that can be used year-round, clubs are better able to host community activities, education programmes, and social initiatives, ensuring lasting benefits for the whole community.
We have a chance to develop our facilities and campus, with the support of the local Sheffield & Hallam FA along with Barnsley & Penistone Town Councils to get the available funding from the Football Foundation to develop our facilities.
Simon Hammond is the lead on this project supported by the Chairman & the Committee, and we are working hard towards a goal of getting Penistone and its community a 3G pitch facility that can be used 24/7 by the club and its growing team numbers alongside the local community.
To achieve this we need to tap into available funds/grants along with raising funds ourselves and via generous sponsorship. Along with improving the playing facilities, we will improve the club house and changing areas, bringing a more hub like approach, and we want to develop this in conjunction with our local community.
