Backs to the wall Blacks just won't be beaten

North Gawber 2-2 Penistone Blacks

The 'Mighty 11' arrived at North Gawber looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season. The game kicked off and North Gawber started well, looking to reverse last weeks result. But Penistone are a more resilient outfit this year - they stood firm under early pressure and started to gain some control the game . Lily and Elsie making superb trademark runs down the right, Brooke continually threatening down the left and Bea winning battles and picking off passes from the middle. Penistone creating lots of opportunities , but the final ball not quite coming off for them. Then just before half time Gawber pounced on a ball over the top and finished to make it 1-0 to the home side at HT.

The girls rallied after half time and started the second on the front foot . But another Gawber attack and a second goal for the home side . Then the girls showed their real character and decided to go for it . With Layla having an outstanding game having volunteered to play in goal - Emily sweeping calmly at the back, Imogen and Emmy always attacking and winning the ball - the defence allowed the others a platform to build an attack from. Hattie, who dominated the midfield all game, winning so many tackles and picking off the right pass each time. The girls began to dominate possession the game. Then a set back - Emily rolled her ankle and with no subs the girls were reduced to 10 players . However, this seemed to make the girls more determined to get something from this game. Omniah who is adapting well to playing further forward, battled for the ball and then played a great ball over the top- Elsie was first to react , she raced onto it and put the ball calmly past the keeper . With 20 mins to go and with only 10 players - the Penistone girls showed exactly what they were capable of. After a period of solid pressure - a brilliant Maisie run down the right , she squared the ball to Hattie who from the edge of the box finished brilliantly into the top corner with a great strike . Much to the delight of the girls, coaches and their supporters. An absolutely phenomenal performance from the girls - and a real show of character, that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
