Girls continue great start to the season

Penistone Blacks 3 North Gawber 1

Penistone returned to league action with a 3-1 win against league rivals North Gawber . Both teams have enjoyed close and competitive matches against each other in the past - and this was to be no different.

The game started well for Penistone with them taking advantage over a Gawber side missing some key players. Penistone created some good opportunities in the opening twenty minutes but Gawber defended well. It was Gawber who then broke the deadlock - scoring directly from a corner kick to take the lead 0-1.

Penistone girls are showing real character this season and continued to work hard and create some great opportunities, playing fast, attacking football. Maise soon levelled the game, with her first ever goal for the club - rifling the ball into the net with a fierce right footed shot.

The Penistone girls were not satisfied with a draw and  in the second half continued to create chances , looking for the winner. Brooke then scored her first of the league campaign after a great run down the left and a lovely left footed finish into the roof of the net.

Omniah then added a third in the closing minutes, playing in an advanced role -  she made the game safe with a glancing touch from a corner into the Gawber goal to make the final score 3-1.

A great game to watch and one that clearly demonstrated how much progress the team is making - their communication and support for each other is growing week on week. The goal scorers went on to pick up all 3 match awards
