Match Day- Penistone Church Ladies U14s Blacks VS Rossington Girls U14s- Division 3

A beautiful autumnal morning at Penistone Grammar School provided the setting for this Division 3 clash, as Church welcomed Rossington FC U14 Girls.

The first half was an evenly contested affair, with both sides creating opportunities.

Harriet was in excellent form in the Church goal, getting down brilliantly to block two dangerous low efforts, while at the other end Alice and Evie both went close to finding the breakthrough.

The Church defence stood firm under pressure, but the best chance of the opening half fell to Rossington, who rattled the post just before the half-time whistle.

HT: 0–0

Church came flying out after the break and produced arguably their best spell of the match, putting the visitors under sustained pressure during the opening ten minutes of the second half.

Despite plenty of possession and attacking intent, we just couldn't find a way through, while Rossington continued to look dangerous whenever they broke forward.

Then came the big moment of the game.

Following a drop ball, Leah unleashed an incredible strike from around 40 yards that flew into the net! 🚀⚽

For a moment, the girls thought we'd taken the lead — but after the referee consulted on the decision, the goal was correctly ruled out. Unfortunately for us, under the Laws of the Game, a goal cannot be scored directly from a dropped ball.

It was a huge moment and seemed to change the momentum of the match.

Rossington responded strongly and, around five minutes later, took the lead. Church lost a little of the composure we'd shown earlier in the game, and the visitors capitalised before adding a second goal before the final whistle.

A frustrating result after competing well for large parts of the game, but plenty for the girls to take from the performance.

Heads up. We learn from it, we move forward and we go again. ⚫⚪💪
