The U14s were back in league action this weekend facing a strong SJR Worksop team. Having played them twice this season in the league and cup and with both games being close we knew we would have to be on top form to take anything from the game.
Before kick off both teams were sat mid table, level on points. If either team could find that win it would give them the chance to jump up to 4th in division 1 and set them up for a strong push towards the end of the season.
Penistone won the coin toss for KO and started the game strong, in both attack and defence. Our training this week was all about keeping the ball on the floor, passing and moving and the girls showed the hard work paid off with some great football all over the pitch.
20 minutes in SJR made a quick break but the Penistone defence stood strong with Ellie out pacing their attacker and putting the ball out for a throw in. Penistone then managed to win the ball back mid way in our half with Grace starting the counter attack and playing a perfectly weighted through ball between 2 defenders for Mia to use her pace and sprint towards goal, the angle was getting tight but Mia some how squeezed the ball between the keeper and the post.
1-0 Penistone
The reminder of the 1st and 2nd half continued to be some good play from Penistone creating 6/7
chances just unfortunately couldn’t get the ball in the net. SJR also had chances at goal with either a long ball over the top or a through ball, but keeper Amelia was always there to sweep up any loose balls.
Ft 1-0 penistone with today’s player of the match going to Lyla. Lyla was a key player throughout the game playing on the wing; she showed some great skill to get down the wing but also showed her physical side too to win the ball back.
Well done girls ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
