U12 Girls Celebrate First Away Win of the Season!
Sheffield Steelers U12s 0–2 Penistone Church U12 Girls
Penistone Church U12 Girls secured a fantastic 2-0 victory away at Sheffield Steelers yesterday, recording their first away win of the season!
The first half proved to be a tough test for Penistone, as they struggled to break down a well-organised Sheffield Steelers side who defended resolutely in a deep defensive block. Mia and Emily M worked hard to stretch the play and create opportunities down the wings, but despite their efforts, the teams went into half-time level at 0-0.
The second half saw a much more determined Penistone side take control and begin to unlock the Sheffield defence. Much of this was thanks to the excellent work of Abi, who helped drive the team forward and link play from midfield.
Nyla came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock with a superb strike from outside the box. Her effort beat the goalkeeper but cannoned off the post, rolling tantalisingly across the goal line before Sheffield managed to clear their lines.
However, the breakthrough wasn't far away! Midway through the second half, Penistone struck twice in quick succession, with Nyla and Lourdes both finding the net from close range to put the visitors firmly in control and secure a well-deserved 2-0 victory.
There was still time for Abi to almost cap off an outstanding performance with a long-range effort of her own, which flashed narrowly past the post.
🏆 Girl of the Game: Abi
Abi thoroughly deserved the Girl of the Game award for her all-round performance. Playing in defensive midfield, she was instrumental in breaking up opposition attacks, linking defence with attack and driving Penistone forward throughout the match.
A fantastic team performance, two great goals and a clean sheet – and, most importantly, that first away victory of the season!
Well done, girls! A brilliant effort from everyone. Onwards and upwards, Penistone!
