U16 Whites Girls Post Back to Back Wins
Penistone U16 Whites made it 2 wins from 2 in a week against Barnsley Reds with a 4:1 victory at home.
The game started in a similar vein to the previous week with Penistone taking a two goal lead within the first 10 minutes.
Jessica Hitchins scored the opener after pouncing on a loose ball in the Barnsley box following a corner, after which Izzy Lomas scored a superb 1st time scissor finish to double Penistone's lead.
The remainder of the half saw a pattern of Penistone chances come and go and a number of great save from the Barnsley goalkeeper keeping the game in the balance.
In the second half the introduction of Gabi Snape by Penistone added a different threat to their attack which led to numerous raids into the Barnsley half. One such raid resulted in a corner which was bundled into the net by Jessica Atherton giving her a goal on her first appearance of the season and continuing the new found goal scoring acumen she has displayed throughout pre-season.
With approximately 25 minutes to go Gabi Snape now playing more centrally seized on a through ball by Jess Hitchins following a great interception, touch and pass to fire Penistone into an unasailable 4 goal lead.
With the match playing out in a strong wind and difficult conditions it was Barnsley who finished the scoring with an outstanding blind side run, pass and finish into the Penistone net with the final kick of a ball to make the final score 4:1
After a difficult 160 minutes for the opposition in the 2 back to back games it is was great to see them finish the match on a high and we hope they carry this confidence into the rest of their season.
Girl of the game went to Gabi Snape who's impetous on Penistone's right in the 2nd half added vigour and impetous to the Penistone attack.
Also of note is the start to the season of Jessica "Fraggle" Hitchins who followed up last week's GOTG award with a goal and assist in today's fixture.
The Church girls are looking forward to participating next week in the County Cup and will be working hard across both training sessions this week to continue their winning start to the league.
