Magnificent 7 For U16 Whites

Church were on the road this week for game 5 of the league season as they looked to keep their unbeaten run intact against last seasons Division 3 champions, Killamarsh Dynamos.

The girls looked strong from the off and were rewarded in the 3rd minute when Ella Darrington slotted home after being played in by Freya Wright. With Penistone continuing to apply pressure Gabi Snape and Ella Darrington combined down the right before setting up Kevayah Smith to finish smartly from the edge of the box on six minutes to make it 2-0.

Penistone's third followed on the quarter hour mark as a cross/shot from Macy Jones found the back of the net from 25 yards. The game could have been over by half time, but the girls can count themselves a little unlucky as they hit the woodwork three times, twice with free kicks from Wright and once from Jess Atherton.

The second half started a little slower than the first and that allowed Killamarsh to have a little more possession in the opening few minutes. However in the 62nd minute Penistone were awarded a free kick in a central position just outside the penalty area and this was duly dispatched by Daisy Sykes to make it 4-0.

The next two goals were arguably the best of the game. Firstly, Akira White played a first time ball into Darrington who dribbled past two players before firing home on 68 minutes. Then in the 73rd minute, now operating down the left, Gabi Snape chased down what looked like a lost cause before playing in Wright who finished brilliantly to the keepers left. Penistone finished off the scoring with what was almost the last kick of the game as Wright latched on to a loose ball in the box after a long throw from Lomas.

Overall it was a convincing win for Church, who after results elsewhere, moved to the top of the league. Massive credit to Killamarsh who never gave up and never stopped battling over the whole 80 minutes.

Today's GOTG as voted for by our amazing parents, was Niamh Bromehead who was outstanding.
