Back to back wins

⚽ Rossington Miners Welfare U13 0-3 Penistone Church Women’s U13 ⚽

Back-to-back victories for the Church! 🤍🖤

Penistone Church secured consecutive victories today with a well-earned 3-0 win away at Rossington Miners Welfare.

The visitors made the perfect start when captain Anya threaded a superb ball through to Liz, who took it in her stride before calmly finishing to put Penistone ahead.

Playing on a small, hard surface, the unpredictable bounce made it difficult for both sides to settle and get the ball down and play. A period of end-to-end football followed, with neither side able to add to the score before the break.

Penistone made a tactical change after half-time, moving to a flat midfield four, which helped stem Rossington's threat through the middle of the pitch.

The second goal came from an unlikely source. A huge kick from goalkeeper and Girl of the Game Olivia set Gracie away. Timing her run perfectly, Gracie latched onto the ball and poked it home to double the Church's advantage.

Just a few minutes later, Anya added a third in spectacular fashion. Controlling the ball on her chest, the captain took aim with the outside of her boot and watched as the ball nestled neatly into the bottom corner. 3-0!

A professional performance from Penistone, who managed the game well and came away with another clean sheet.

It's been a fantastic start to the season for the Church. Seven goals scored, none conceded and two wins from two leaves Penistone sitting proudly at the top of the league.

Next up is a stern test in the Country Cup, with Doncaster Elite AFC Gold travelling to Penistone.
