Penistone Church U12 Girls 2–1 Crosspool

Before kick-off, both teams came together to observe a minute’s silence in respect and remembrance of those who have served and sacrificed for our country. A poignant moment of reflection before what would go on to be a fantastic game of football.

Penistone Church U12 Girls secured their second straight victory this morning, continuing to build momentum and confidence with every game.

Both sides came flying out of the blocks, with Penistone piling on the pressure early while Crosspool worked hard to match their energy. The breakthrough came when Lourdes produced an excellent clean run, gliding past the advancing keeper before calmly finishing to put Penistone 1–0 ahead.

Shortly afterwards, Nyla came close to doubling the lead with a great strike that rattled off the post. Crosspool continued to rise to the occasion and began creating chances of their own, but Tilly was equal to everything thrown her way, producing some crucial saves to keep Penistone in front. At the back, Pippa and Annie stood strong, refusing to let Crosspool break through despite the visitors' relentless pressure.

Penistone continued to show great tackling, determination and work rate, refusing to give Crosspool any space and constantly chasing the ball down. Abi once again applied fantastic pressure and helped disrupt a Crosspool side who currently sit second in the table.

Despite Penistone's efforts, Crosspool eventually found an equaliser before half-time to make it 1–1 at the break.

The second half was every bit as competitive. Crosspool pushed harder and refused to give in, but Penistone matched them with determination and fight. Rosalina and Mia battled hard for every ball, while the whole team continued to drive forward and support each other. Crosspool threw everything at Penistone as they searched for a winner, but an impressive defensive display combined with another string of vital saves from Tilly kept the visitors at bay.

With the final whistle approaching, a draw looked increasingly likely — but the girls had other ideas. Nyla struck late to put Penistone back in front at 2–1! The final whistle soon followed, securing a fantastic victory against a strong Crosspool side.

This was an exciting game from start to finish and a brilliant one to watch from the sidelines. The girls showed incredible grit, determination and togetherness to see out the win, proving they have what it takes to compete with — and beat — the strongest teams in the league.

A huge shout-out to Tilly, who was deservedly awarded Girl of the Game for her outstanding performance between the sticks. Her string of crucial saves, particularly in the second half, played a huge part in helping Penistone hold on and secure all three points. Well done, Tilly — what a performance!

And a massive well done to all the girls for another fantastic team effort!

Keep that momentum going, Penistone — there are plenty more wins to come!
