Match Report: Millmoor 4–2 Penistone Church Women’s U12

A frustrating morning for Penistone Church Women’s U12 as a chance to move up to third place slipped away against a direct and physical Millmoor side.

Millmoor’s approach—frequent long balls and powerful throw-ins—caused problems throughout, and it was they who struck first to take a 1–0 lead into half-time. Moments after the restart, Millmoor doubled their advantage, leaving Penistone with a mountain to climb.

To their credit, Penistone responded with determination. Liz, who had already come close on a couple of occasions—first firing over when well placed and then being denied by a last-ditch defensive effort—made no mistake the third time. Racing through on goal, she showed great composure to slot home and pull one back.

Just minutes later, the comeback was complete. Gracie timed her run perfectly, took the ball in stride, and calmly finished past the goalkeeper to make it 2–2. It capped an excellent performance and was no surprise to see her awarded Girl of the Game.

With momentum on their side, Penistone pushed hard for a winner, knowing victory would put them in a strong position heading into the final game of the season. However, it was Millmoor who struck next, scoring against the run of play to regain the lead. As Penistone committed players forward in search of another equaliser, Millmoor added a fourth with virtually the last kick of the match.

Credit goes to Millmoor, whose direct style proved effective and has helped them climb into mid-table.

Despite the disappointment, Penistone can hold their heads high. Sitting in fourth place is a fantastic achievement, and with one game remaining, a win could still secure a third-place finish. There’s everything to play for as they look to end the season on a high.
