Rossington Main WFC 0-0 PCWFC

⚽🖤🤍 FULL TIME | Rossington Main Ladies Reserves 0–0 Penistone Church Women
Short on numbers, but certainly not short on quality as Church battled their way to a hard-earned point on the road.
With just 12 players available, squad depth was always going to be a challenge, but there was absolutely no shortage of quality, determination or commitment from those who pulled on the black and white shirt.
There was a well-deserved first start for Macy Jones, stepping up from our Under 16 Whites, while we were also delighted to welcome back Emily Sammon, making the most of a weekend home from Newcastle University.
Church enjoyed the better of the first half, creating the majority of the chances and twice finding themselves one-on-one with the Rossington goalkeeper. Some excellent defending and goalkeeping from the hosts kept the scores level, while Rossington’s clearest opportunity of the half was fired wide.
Half-time: 0–0
With only one substitute available, tired legs inevitably began to play a part after the break, and Rossington gradually tipped the balance of play in their favour.
Despite enjoying more possession and territory, clear-cut opportunities remained few and far between. Sarah Peet was called upon to make a couple of important saves, while Church continued to pose a threat whenever the opportunity arose.
Church thought they had found the breakthrough when Alice Norman put the ball in the net, only for the referee to rule it out following a tight offside decision.
Neither side could find a winner, and the points were shared.
There were mixed feelings at the final whistle. On another day, we might have taken one of those first-half chances and come away with all three points, but given our limited numbers and the effort required throughout the 90 minutes, we have to be satisfied with a well-earned point.
🌟 PLAYER OF THE MATCH – ABBY ULLEY 🌟
An outstanding performance in the middle of the park from Abby, who seemed to cover every blade of grass — some of them more than once!
Alongside her midfield partners Kirsty Downing and Caitlin Sammon, she worked tirelessly throughout, providing the energy, quality and determination that helped Church compete from first whistle to last.
A huge collective effort from all 12 players, with everyone making an important contribution.
📊 Six games played. Three wins. One draw. Two defeats.
A decent enough start to the season, particularly for a squad with so much young talent, and plenty of positives to build on as we continue to develop together.
And in a strange quirk of the fixture list, we get to do it all again next Sunday when Rossington visit the Memorial Ground for the return fixture!
The future’s bright. The future’s black and white. 🖤🤍
