This weekend saw the final home game of the season for our U14s with a fixture against Sheffield United who’ve had a very strong second half of the season. Seeing Sheffields recent results we knew today was going to be good game for the spectators.
Penistone needed to be alert at all times but unfortunately this wasn’t the case for the visitors first goal. With Penistone defender Nat bringing a player down mid way in our half and also tumbling herself, Sheffield took a quick free quick with a well placed through ball behind the remaining defender leaving the Sheffield striker with just the keeper to beat. With no pressing from defenders she placed the ball into the far corner.
5 minutes later Sheffield united struck again with Penistone losing the ball and the united’s forwards finding a way behind the defenders again to give them the 2-0 lead.
From this point on Church finally came alive and had a very strong last 20 minutes of the first half.
The 2nd half Penistone were asked to go out and play with confidence and it didn’t take long before they got the goal they’d deserved! Emily U started the attack down the right side and put the ball in the box which eventually got pushed out by the keeper who now found herself far out of goal leaving an open net. The ball fell kindly to Emily G’s feet just outside the penalty bThis weekend saw the final home game of the season for our U14s with a fixture against Sheffield United who’ve had a very strong second half of the season.
