Cup weekend for the U14s who drew an away fixture against Sheffield United Junior Blades. With Junior blades flying high in division 2 and currently sitting top of the league, Penistone however have had a rocky start back since the Christmas breaks.
Playing on a very small pitch compared to what we are used to it was going to be very cramped and this was the case throughout the game, on top of that the girls and the ref found it hard to see the line markings often walking the ball out of play not realising.
The first half was very evenly match with chances coming from both teams, with both keepers making some good saves. Junior blades came the closest with a good shot from distance which was matched with an equally good save from Amelia in goal for Penistone pushing the ball onto the crossbar. Going in 0-0 at HT the players returned to put everything in for the second half of the game.
Still a very evenly matched game, it was Junior Blades who got the only goal of the game with a cross coming in to 2 unmarked players at the back.
Penistone players were adamant the players were offside and even with the linesman flag raised but the ref deemed it onside giving the home team the only goal of the game and sending Penistone out of the cup.
All our focus is now getting back on track in the league and letting the girls show what they can do.
Girl of the Game went to Isla, she had some tasks to do on the pitch and smashed every single one of them!
FT 1-0
