After 3 consecutive away fixtures, the first team return to action in Penistone at the Parker Roofing Memorial Ground, this coming Saturday, when they take on Frickley Athetic in the NCEL Premier Division. Penistone Church reserves season started yesterday with a Home game against Ecclesfield Red Rose. With several new faces from our under 21s and junior section involved and with many players also being unavailable, a much changed side began the game well, but we’re unable to take any of their early chances. The lads put in a good shift and were a little unlucky to go down 2-1 this afternoon over at Stockport Georgians FC. In a very close encounter Church got their noses in front after taking the lead via a 40th minute penalty from Nathan Keightley for his 3rd goal in 2 games. However Georgians hit back in the 45th minute with the equaliser and then took the lead to win the game 2-1 in the 59th minute. This Saturday the first team travel with the backing of a coachload of supporters, across the pennines to meet Stockport Georgians in the Isuzu FA Vase First Qualifying Round. A good performance but a disapointing result as Church were on the worng end of a 4-1 defeat having taken the lead via Luca Defalco in only the third minute. An opening day crowd of 303 saw Church take an early and deserved 2-0 lead over Campion in the NCEL Premier Division. Goals by Kieran Ryan and Jordan Coduri getting us off to the best possible start.
