Penistone Church 1–7 Rawmarsh St Joseph’s

A tough result for the girls yesterday as we were beaten 7–1 by a strong and well-organised Rawmarsh St Joseph’s side.

The scoreline will obviously be disappointing, but there were plenty of individual performances and positive signs to take from the game as we continue to learn and develop as a team.

Girl of the Game, Pippa, deserves a special mention after showing fantastic energy, determination and resilience in just her second game for the team. A brilliant effort and a performance to be proud of.

Ella and Rosalina continue to make rapid progress and are pushing hard to establish themselves as regular first-team players. Their development has been excellent to see and they are showing real promise.

There was also a moment of quality from Nyla, who produced a superb finish for Penistone's only goal of the game — a great reward for her efforts.

Interestingly, the final score was identical to our defeat against Rawmarsh last season, giving us a useful benchmark to measure our progress as the season goes on. We know there is work to do, but these are the games that help us learn, grow and improve.

Keep your heads up, girls. We dust ourselves down, keep working hard and go again next week!
