This weekend saw the U14s go into their penultimate game of this season. We said to the girls prior to the game how happy we are with how they’ve done this season, securing another season in the top division and looking at a mid to high table finish. So the girls were asked to go out there and just enjoy the game.
It was always going to be a tough one with Penistone only having a bare 11 players, so there would be no fresh legs to bring on when the opposition made their substitutions.
Never one to shy away from a challenge our Penistone girls gave it everything.
8 minutes into the game Ruby C ran at the Nether Green defence but was forced out wide, she managed cross the ball into the danger area and with Emily U slotting the ball home giving Penistone an early lead.
Nether Green kept putting the pressure on Penistone and just before half time they pulled one back when the ball wasn’t properly cleared by Penistone’s defence giving the opposition a shot on goal which sadly found its way in.
1-1 HT
The second half continued the same with Nether Green having plenty of possession but Penistone managed to keet holding them off.
10 minutes into the 2nd half Isla was brought down outside the penalty area and stepped up to take the free kick. She hit the ball with precision sending it up and over the defence before hitting the underside of the crossbar and in it went!
With just 15 minute left in the clock and Penistone legs starting to tire, Nether Green had more chances but Amelia M in goal was having a superb game reacting well to all the pressure.
The score was brought back level again when Nether Green were given a soft free kick from distance, the ball was fired into the penalty area, through the defenders and superbly volleyed into the net.
Full time 2-2 and the points shared leaving both teams level on 22 points sitting in 3rd and 4th, but Nether Green having a game in hand.
Just 1 game left but for now we look forward to next weekend when we travel to Skegness to take part in the ESF 2026 tournament.
Good luck girls! ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
