Reserves Win to Make The League Cup Final

A quite amazing County Senior League Cup Semi Final this evening, hosted at Athersley FC, saw our reserves beat Dodworth Miners Welfare FC on penalties. It took 12 rounds of penalties for the teams to be separated but the lads prevailed 9-8 with a Chris Snaith save proving decisive after Callum Lee had scored his second of the shootout, quite literally leading from the front.

Manager Tom Wright was delighted with his teams second half fight back, coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 after late goals from the young man Luke Fretwell on 88 minutes and an equaliser in stoppage time by influential Substitute Jack Roberts.

Jack Roberts and Ash Fisher were second half substitutes who came on and literally helped swing the balance of the game and also combined well for the equalising goal after what manager Tom Wright described as an abysmal and diabolical first 45 minutes, in fact the worst performance he had seen from his team this season .

Thankfully the half time words of ‘encouragement’ and the substitutions enabled the team to find themselves and credit where it is due, to the lads for pulling off what probably looked an impossible task to some.

Everybody at the club is delighted to once again make this final, and as Tom said after the game we still have 4 huge league fixtures to play, before the final which takes place on the 8th May.

Massive congratulations Guys and UTC.
