After nearly a month without playing due to the bad weather our U14s finally got back out on the pitch for a friendly away against Sprotbrough & Cusworth.
With a few girls missing due to district games & holidays it was going to be a tough test for the rest but right from the KO we could see they were all up for it.
It was a fairly even but scrappy first half with an uneven pitch making it hard for the girls to keep possession of the ball and string passes together but they found a way through taking the lead in the first half with penistone stealing the ball off the Sprotbrough defender in the penalty area and slotting the ball in the net.
The second half was pretty similar but Penistone started to get the passing rhythm going and played some great one-twos down the wing to break forwards.
Sprotbrough also had their chances and came close to scoring with a few nervy moments in the penalty area but the Penistone defence and keeper Amelia were there to clean up and earn the clean sheet giving Penistone a 1-0 win.
We are looking forward to getting back into the league next weekend and pushing on towards the end of the season.
Our player of the match today went to Ruby S. Ruby was asked to try a new position and cover positions for the missing girls. She did a superb job, her pressing was also spot on today, not allowing Sprotbrough time on the ball.
Well done girls UTC⚪️⚫️⚪️⚫️
