A Plaque unveiling at The Crystal Palace Inn, Thurlstone, took place on March 18th 2026 at 3.00pm.
The Plaque is dedicated to local man, and football pioneer, John Marsh.
The founding member of the Wednesday FC in 1867.
First Captain and Secretary of the club 1867- 1874.
Winning Captain of the Cromwell Cup in 1868.
Captain of the Sheffield Football Association representative side 1871- 1874.
Landlord of The Crystal Palace Inn Thurlstone 1874-1880.
The guest of honour was Liam Palmer, the current Captain of Sheffield Wednesday FC.
A nice crowd of locals and dignitaries gathered to listen to the story of John Marsh presented by Richard Galliford & Kevin Neill. The plaque was then unveiled by Liam Palmer and a family descendant of John Marsh himself.
