Match Report
Penistone Church Women’s U12 3–1 Kiveton Women’s U12
A glorious sunny spring morning provided the perfect backdrop for today’s 4th vs 5th clash in Division 2. Both sides started brightly, showing intent with creative play down the wings, and early shots flashed across both goals.
It was Kiveton who broke the deadlock with a clever route-one move. A long pass from the goalkeeper split midfield and found their striker, who finished neatly past Penistone goalkeeper Olivia.
As half-time approached, Penistone pushed hard for an equaliser but couldn’t quite find the breakthrough.
The second half began at a fast pace, and it wasn’t long before Penistone responded. Anya combined brilliantly with Player of the Match Gracie in a neat one-two move. Anya drove to the byline and poked the ball into the middle, where Evie was perfectly placed to finish from close range—her second goal in as many games.
Evie continued to cause problems in the attacking third and soon won a penalty after being brought down in the box. Gracie stepped up confidently and, despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it, powered the ball into the net to give Penistone a deserved lead.
Both teams continued to battle impressively, showing great determination and teamwork. Penistone then extended their lead when Gracie picked up the ball and played it forward to leading goalscorer Liz. She turned, drove at the defence, and, after the ball squirmed loose under pressure from the onrushing goalkeeper, showed great composure to recover, round the keeper, and smash the ball home past two defenders on the line—her 16th goal of the season.
The final minutes were managed calmly by Penistone, though they nearly added a fourth. Anya made a brilliant run through the defence but saw her shot whistle just wide. Imogen also came close during a goalmouth scramble, but Kiveton defended well to keep the score down.
Results elsewhere mean Penistone climb to 3rd place in the table with three games remaining. Next up is an away trip to Eckington before a short Easter break. They’ll then return with another away fixture at Millmoor before finishing the season at home to Langwith in what could be a decisive game for 3rd place.
Whatever happens, it’s already been an incredible season for the girls in black and white.

Up the Church! ⛪️⚪️⚫️⚽️💪
