Match Report: Penistone Church Women U12s 1–0 Langwith Whitestars

It all came down to this final fixture in the battle for third place—and what a way to finish. Regardless of the result, this has already been a monumental season for the girls in black and white. Thrown into Division 2 at the start of the campaign, the aim was simple:

compete, improve, and try to finish above the teams they came up with. They didn’t just achieve that—they exceeded expectations.

Fourth place had been secured a fortnight ago, but third was still within reach. Narrow missed opportunities against Eckington and Millmoor meant this was a win-or-bust encounter—and the team delivered when it mattered most.

The perfect start came in breathtaking fashion. Less than nine seconds on the clock, and Penistone were ahead. From kick-off, the ball was played back to captain Anya, who delivered a looping pass forward. Gracie timed her run perfectly, controlled with composure, drove into the box, and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper to give her side the dream start.

What followed was a fiercely contested and action-packed game. Both sides created chances, but the goalkeepers stood tall, producing excellent saves throughout. Penistone’s defensive line was rock solid—Isla and Heidi cleared with authority, while Magz dropped back intelligently to support and steady the back line. Their efforts ensured Olivia in goal secured a well-earned clean sheet.

Up front, Girl of the Game and birthday star Rohan led the line superbly alongside Liz, who came close on multiple occasions and could easily have had a hatful if not for Langwith’s outstanding shot-stopper.

In midfield, Gracie and Anya dictated the tempo, supported brilliantly by Angel, who worked tirelessly both in attack and defence. Evie and Imogen added fresh energy off the bench, bringing pace and strength during a demanding second half under the spring sunshine.

A fantastic performance to cap off an incredible season—finishing on a high and securing that coveted third place.

Well done, ladies.

Now, on to the celebrations at the clubhouse for the end-of-season presentation.
