SJR Worksop Blacks 1-3 Penistone Church Women’s U13

Penistone returned to league action today following the October half-term break, and there were plenty of fireworks on show as the girls secured another important three points!

Before kick-off, both teams impeccably observed a minute’s silence in remembrance of those who have served and sacrificed.

Then it was time for the action!

Any concerns about a little rustiness after the week off were quickly extinguished. Inside the opening four minutes, Angel gambled at the back post and produced a lovely looping finish over the goalkeeper to send Penistone into an early 1-0 lead. 💥

Worksop proved to be a stern test, with some strong challenges and determined defending making life difficult for the visitors. Penistone almost doubled their advantage following an indirect free-kick inside the six-yard box, but the effort struck a defender, then the post, before somehow rolling across the goal and being cleared!

With half-time approaching, Penistone turned up the heat. A loose ball was picked up and Maggie showed superb vision to find Alyssia with a diagonal pass. Alyssia then laid the ball off first time for girl of the game Liz, who made no mistake with a wonderful finish to register her fifth goal of the season! 🚀

Half-time: 2-0 Penistone.

The goals continued after the break, with Rohan getting in on the action. Liz launched a long throw into the box, Gracie controlled and moved the ball on to Evie, who cleverly poked it through to Rohan. Showing great composure, she calmly slotted home to make it 3-0. 🎇

Penistone looked comfortable as they worked hard across the pitch and managed the game well. However, Worksop had the final say, preventing a clean sheet with an absolute worldie to make it 3-1. Sometimes you just have to applaud the finish!

Full-time: SJR Worksop Blacks 1-3 Penistone Church Women’s U13.

A solid performance, three well-taken goals and another valuable league win. The girls can now turn their attention to next week's County Cup quarter-final against Wath.

It promises to be a much tougher test against opposition from the top division, but this result will hopefully provide plenty of confidence heading into the tie.

🎆 Three goals, three points and plenty of fireworks!
