An end to end first half on a flat but very bobbly pitch made for an entertaining game this evening at the Easy Buy Stadium in Barton. The hosts got off to a swift start and were 2-0 up after 14 minutes, through a long range strike into the top corner, then a goal converted from a low cross, that seemed to take a few bobbles deceiving our back line.
Then Church forced themselves into the game with two quick fire goals of their own, the first in the 22nd minute from a Ryan Johnson header, and then on the 26th minute following good play down our right flank on the edge of the box, between Carlton & Lennon, a low cross was nicely converted by Leon Hurles-Brook.
No time to draw breath, as the hosts then took the lead with their third and ultimately winning goal on 38 minutes, a low shot that seemed to again bobble and deceive Harry as he dived to get across to it.
The second half was still an entertaining affair finishing 0-0, with fewer chances created and defences on top, Barton did hit the post in the last 10 minutes, but the teams pretty much cancelled each other out in the second half.
Once again the Church 16 gave it their all, and again their can be no question around the effort and desire on display... A shame that we could not find the equaliser, and again we went toe to toe with a strong play off candidate for the second time in a matter of days.
A 1 point gain from the last two games seems a little unfair based on the performances at Tadcaster and Barton but c'est la vie this season... It was great to see Max Swift, Luke Fretwell and Matty Jacobs all get on as second half substitutes.
