Into the quarter finals!

⚽ COUNTY CUP: PENISTONE CHURCH WOMEN’S U13 4-1 BRAMLEY SUNNYSIDE ⚽

Penistone Church were back in County Cup action this weekend, having knocked out JPL outfit Doncaster Elite Gold in the previous round following a penalty shootout victory.

Another home tie awaited the girls on a cold but bright October day, and they wasted little time making their mark.

Church started brightly and took the lead inside the opening five minutes. Captain and Girl of the Game Anya played a neat ball into Alyssia, who finished confidently to get Penistone up and running.

Just five minutes later, Anya was at it again, delivering a great ball across the box for Evie to finish superbly with a first-time shot.

The pressure continued, and another driving run down the left saw Anya cut inside at the byline before delivering a low cross across the face of goal. Rohan couldn't quite connect with the first opportunity, but Maggie was perfectly positioned at the back post to finish well and make it 3-0.

Penistone went into the break firmly in control, but there was still time for more after the restart.

Anya claimed her fourth assist of the game with another moment of quality. Taking control of a bouncing ball, she lifted a perfectly weighted pass over the final defender for leading goalscorer Liz to run onto and finish clinically, putting Church 4-0 ahead.

Credit to Bramley Sunnyside, who battled throughout and managed to find a consolation goal following a scramble in the goalmouth.

The final whistle confirmed a convincing 4-1 victory and, more importantly, Penistone Church are into the County Cup quarter-finals! 🏆

A fantastic team performance, with Anya pulling the strings and deservedly taking Girl of the Game honours after contributing to all four goals.

The girls have a brief break from fixtures next weekend due to half term before returning to league action.

As always, a huge thank you to our fantastic sponsors Wellhouse Leisure, Conrad Energy and Stocksbridge Aromatherapy for their continued support of girls’ football.

Up the church! ⚪️⚽️⚫️⛪️
