What a way to start the new season! 🙌⚽️

There was plenty of anticipation going into our first Division 3 fixture of the season against Chesterfield Town – made even more special as it was the girls' first competitive game at their new home, the Memorial Ground.

The weather certainly didn't make things easy, with heavy rain at times creating challenging conditions, but the Church girls settled quickly and played some really good football.

In the first half, Erin, our new No.9, and Alice caused the Chesterfield defence no end of problems. We created four or five really good chances and on another day could easily have gone into the break a couple of goals ahead.But the breakthrough just wouldn't come.

At half-time the message was simple: stay patient, keep playing our football and the chances will come.

The girls responded brilliantly.

⚽️ 1–0 – Alice Eight minutes after the restart, the deadlock was finally broken. Alice timed her run perfectly before producing a composed low finish past the goalkeeper.

⚽️ 2–0 – Erin Just five minutes later, Alice tested the keeper again and the ball fell to Erin, who made absolutely no mistake with a well-taken finish – a thoroughly deserved first goal after causing problems all game.

⚽️ 3–0 – Leah Church were flying now, and just two minutes later Leah made it three with a well-driven strike that beat the keeper.

⚽️ 4–0 – Alice Olivia P then opened up the Chesterfield defence with a lovely through ball, finding Alice, who grabbed her second of the game to make it four.

⚽️ 5–0 – Leah 🚀And with two minutes remaining, Leah saved the best until last…

Picking the ball up around 25 yards out, she unleashed an absolute worldie, sending it over the keeper to round off the scoring in style! 👏🔥

A fantastic start to the season and a really mature performance from the girls. The most pleasing part was the patience they showed when the goal didn't come in the first half. They listened at half-time, trusted what they were doing and were rewarded with five second-half goals. And at the other end – a clean sheet! 🧤

⭐️ PARENTS' GIRLS OF THE GAME – ERIN & NANCY

⚽️ Erin – Absolutely worked her socks off up front and thoroughly deserved her goal. Her tenacity and desire to get on the ball were brilliant, and she never stopped making life difficult for the Chesterfield defence.

💪 Nancy – So strong in midfield. Never afraid to get stuck in, competed for everything and really bossed the middle of the pitch. She just keeps getting better every game.

⭐️ COACHES' GIRL OF THE GAME – LIV H

Liv had some one-to-one work in training this week specifically around driving forward with the ball and making better decisions when under pressure.

And boy did she put it into practice!

The smallest player on the pitch but absolutely fearless when it came to winning the ball. She drove forward when the opportunity was there, made good decisions and looked brilliant at right-back.

Exactly what we asked for. 👏👏

🧤 SPECIAL MENTION – HARRIET

A clean sheet for our keeper to start the season. She wasn't called upon constantly, but when Chesterfield did threaten, Harriet dealt with everything she needed to confidently and helped make sure that zero stayed on the scoreboard.

Five goals. Five different moments to celebrate. A clean sheet. Three points. And a winning start at our new home. 🖤🤍
