The lads should be so proud of their performance this afternoon. Rocked up in the backyard of a team having a great season and pushing for the playoffs , and absolutely took the game to them.

The lads were solid throughout , to a man putting in some outstanding performances, and deservedly led 1-0 at the half having also hit the bar from a great Eddie Newsome strike. Church’s goal was put away by Reece High in the 25th minute. Reece had another lively game along with fellow forwards Matty Lee and Leon Hurles-Brook giving the Tadcaster defenders a lot to think about.

Our new goalkeeper Charlie Hobbs, signed from Sheffield Wednesday, especially for this game had a great first half, making a few top saves along the way. The back 4 were solid kicking and heading everything and giving the Tadcaster front men no time at all, Johnno and Jack Cawthorn aggressive in their defending and along with Jammy and Carlton deserved a clean sheet for their efforts, Our midfield of Lennon, Eddie and Cudz were magnificent , giving absolutely everything for the cause , as did Danny when he came on in the second half…

Tadcaster tried to throw the kitchen sink at us in the second half and the lads dealt with everything thrown at them, 5 subs were made as they chased a result. The desperation to score was evident and in added time they got an equaliser, that many of their own fans also said was undeserved in the scheme of things…. Goal coming from a corner kick and a headed conversion. A corner that many felt should have been a goal kick…but that’s our luck this season.

Nevertheless , Church were excellent today and on a better pitch in the second half, would have added to their tally as had numerous controlled breakaways.. A huge downpour in the second half made the pitch heavy , but both teams still managed to serve up a great competitive match, played in great spirit. man of the match was the whole team.

A special shout out to Church fan Billy Andrews who came along with his dad to watch his teacher from School - Eddie ( Mr Newsome to him). Thanks for coming Billy, we are sure Mr Newsome appreciated the support. 🙌🙌

Happy Birthday Greetings to both Danny Howes & Kieran Ryan too….
