PCWFC 0-3 Sheff Wed Ladies Reserves

⚽ FULL TIME | Penistone Church Women 0–3 Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Reserves
A defeat today, but plenty to be proud of from a very young Penistone side against a strong Sheffield Wednesday team who deserved the three points.
Wednesday took the lead in unfortunate circumstances, a free kick taking a freak bounce which deceived our goalkeeper. Their second also came with a slice of bad luck — the initial ball was clearly offside before our defender, trying to make the clearance, inadvertently put it into our own net.
But this team is about much more than one result. We’ve put our faith in youth this season and today 9 out of 16 of our squad were still teenagers, with only four of the 16 players over the age of 25.
We genuinely believe we have a special group of players here, and performances like today are all part of their development. They’ll learn, they’ll grow and they’ll keep getting better together. 🖤🤍
🌟 Player of the Match – Emma Allcock
It was an incredibly close call between two 16-year-old debutants. Macy Jones produced a fantastic performance on her first appearance, becoming the youngest player ever to represent our open-age Women’s team, but she was just edged out for POTM by an excellent Emma Allcock.
Two 16-year-olds stepping into open-age football and performing like that tells you everything about where this team is heading.
The future’s bright. The future’s black and white. 🖤🤍
The Future Is Black And White
A significant day for Church this afternoon who fielded the youngest side in their history which included three 16 year olds.
Amongst them was Macy Jones who at 16 and 7 days became the youngest player in the club's women's section history and the first active member of our Junior section to ever represent our open age team.
All made significant contributions that earned praise from 1st team manager Steve Stead .
Speaking after the game 1st team manager Steve Stead said "We already have a strong and competitive women's first team, but the level of talent we have pushing for places from our junior section is unprecedented. The work our grassroots coaches are doing is to be commended and can only lead to new heights for our club".
Echoing Steve's sentiments the Girls Secretary Andy Woodcock added "It's clear what women's football means to our town with a bumper crowd in attendance to see history made".
Penistone Church FC would like to acknowledge the contribution of all players and volunteers past and present in helping us grow to this significant milestone in our women's team's history.
